CFIT News and Season's Greetings, December 2025
This December, we look back at a productive year, in which we provided practical guidance for procuring organizations, welcomed new participants to the Pact, and expanded our focus beyond workplace equipment.
We would like to thank you all for your engagement with CFIT throughout 2025 and on behalf of all CFIT participants and supporting organizations, the CFIT secretariat wishes you a thoughtful holiday season and a smooth, successful start to 2026.
CFIT Publications available for download
Three CFIT publications released in 2025 provide structured, actionable guidance for public procuring organizations:
- Practical Strategies for Carbon-Conscious ICT Procurement – The first CFIT mini-guide presents actionable steps for integrating carbon-conscious decision-making into ICT procurement processes.
- Promoting Due Diligence Through ICT Procurement – Developed by KU Leuven as part of the 2023–2024 Community of Practice, this manual equips public buyers with tools to embed transparency, accountability, and ethical responsibility into procurement practices.
- Extending the Lifetime of ICT Products – Extending product lifespans remains one of the most effective ways to reduce environmental impact. This guide provides practical strategies to incorporate lifetime extension throughout the procurement cycle.
All three publications are available for download on the CFIT Pact Website, offering insights that combine practicality with a wider perspective on sustainability and responsibility in ICT procurement.
Growth in 2025
In 2025, the CFIT Pact continued to expand, demonstrating both its growing relevance and its capacity for collaboration. Leitmotiv joined as a supporting organization, bringing expertise in digital infrastructure. Sykehusinnkjøp, the central purchasing body for Norway’s healthcare sector, became a procuring participant, followed by Ireland’s Office of Government Procurement, contributing experience in sustainable ICT procurement. Denmark’s central procurement organization, SKI, also joined as a procuring participant, further extending the Pact’s presence in the Nordic region. Together, all CFIT Pact participants enhance its ability to share knowledge, learn from one another, and develop increasingly coordinated approaches to sustainable ICT procurement. Through this collaboration, operational decisions are more closely connected to long-term social and environmental outcomes, while the network strengthens its capacity to support aligned practices across borders.

Expanding Horizons – From Workplace ICT to Digital Infrastructure
Our annual CFIT in-person meeting, hosted by our procuring participant UNOPS in Copenhagen, highlighted a strategic expansion of CFIT’s focus. While early efforts and ongoing work continue to concentrate on workplace ICT equipment, discussions also drew attention to the considerable environmental and social impacts of data centers, cloud services, software and AI. These systems, often operating behind the scenes, form the backbone of digital operations and carry significant implications for sustainability. In 2026, CFIT will kick off with activities to support CFIT participants in integrating sustainable procurement practices across digital infrastructure. More details will be shared in the following newsletter, including a special announcement. For organizations interested in participating, now is an excellent time to explore joining the CFIT Pact.
